This year's festival was, again, outstanding.  We went to 4 of the 5 arena shows (we skipped Saturday afternoon mainly because we were beat!) and they were all just what they should have been. 

On a sad note, The Monterey Jazz Festival has had a long relationship with the Japanese people.  Unfortunately, earlier this year one of our most loved Japanese friends passed away, Dr.Yoshitugu Iijima.  I saw Mrs. Sachiko Iijima briefly on Sunday afternoon and personally conveyed our condolences.  I'm sure Dr. Iijima would have very much enjoyed the Sunday evening show.  He will be missed dearly both in Japan and at Monterey.
